Welcome back to preschool for 2024! This term at preschool, we will be looking at Traditional Tales and Mythical Creatures. A traditional tale is a story that is well known within a particular culture. It has often been passed down through many different generations allowing great-grandparents, grandparents, parents, and children alike to share a love of these tales. By including these in the curriculum, it is a perfect way for younger children to learn about different characters, story structure and moral lessons.
This term's weeks are:
Week 1 = The Three Little Pigs
Week 2 = Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs
Week 3 = The Gingerbread Man
Week 4 = The Princess and the Pea
Week 5 = Jack and the Beanstalk
Week 6 = The Emperor’s New Clothes & Chinese New Year
Week 7 = Dinosaurs, Pancake Day & Valentines Day
We will be doing lots of different activities to cover all of the tales, rhyme time and small group work to enhance the children’s learning in all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).
Traditional tales present many learning opportunities for our children such as:
Listening to and talking about the stories that they have heard.
Children can begin to be asked ‘why’ questions about a story that they hear; for example, why do you think the giant chased Jack?
Learning and developing new language from the stories.
Making predictions about what they think might happen in the stories and talking about what has happened in the stories.
Offer explanations about why things might happen in a story.
Sequencing parts of the story and creating story maps and retelling the stories in their own words.
Talking about the different characters or settings of the stories.
Opportunities for taking on a role in the child’s play or in small world play.
During the rest of the academic year, we will be holding different fundraising events and would love everyone to get involved and come along and support us. We need these events to raise important funds so that we can continue to improve the preschool for your children and give them a lot more opportunities of different experiences during their time with us.
Without a parent committee, the preschool will be unable to continue. The preschool will be holding an AGM this term (date to be confirmed) so if anyone is interested in joining the committee, please speak to myself or our Chairperson, Kirsty Roberts.
Finally, the children were all amazing in the Nativity at the end of last term and we were proud of every single one of them, singing and following the actions to all the songs. Thank you so much for coming along to watch and support the preschool. The year was finished off with a Christmas party; the children had a great time with party games, making candy floss, popcorn and even using a chocolate fountain for their strawberries. They were all certainly very full and tired after a busy day, which was rounded off with a surprise visit from Santa.
