This week, the children are looking at transportation!
Firstly, we are looking at all the different types of vehicles around us and the various modes of transport. Secondly, we are looking at the differing sounds of vehicles and thirdly, we are looking at how transport benefits our lives.
Many activities are planned for this week. A transportation video/song will be played to the children which identifies types of vehicles and modes of transport. We have out various types of vehicles for the children to play with on a chalked road within the tuff tray. The children will get to make different types of transportation pictures using their fingerprints. A construction sensory bin (using homemade moon sand) will be made for the children to drive, plough and ride construction vehicles through. We will listen to the different sounds of various vehicles and see if we can recognise and identify them. We will look at the means of transport via land, water and air and using work sheets, the children will cut out, colour, and then stick the vehicles, onto the picture depending on whether they think the vehicle travels in the air, on land or in the water. The children will also be putting together a puzzle in number order to build a vehicle; these vehicles will be ones that benefit us such as a bin lorry, ambulance etc.
All of these activities will help to develop the children’s perception, imagination, concentration, problem solving, fine motor skills and encourage role play between the children. It will also engage their senses, promote sharing, and help them to understand the world around us.
When you are out and about with your child, perhaps you could look out together to see all the different types of vehicles you can see and discuss with them how they help us in our day to day lives. Also look at books with your child and talk about how transport benefits us with post vans, bin lorries, delivery trucks, etc.
Above all, don’t forget to remind them that Santa’s Sleigh is probably the most important form of delivery vehicle ever invented!!
