Time for the Olympics!

July brings the Olympics and the children have been learning about them. We have discussed the rings and how they represent the continents taking part; we have looked for them on a map of the World. We have also used cups and tubes to print circles representing the Olympic rings, leading to conversations about size and colour.

Before the internet went down(!), we managed to watch Olympic gymnasts doing what looks impossible! The children took part in an online Olympic themed yoga session; they engaged really well, moving their bodies into the required shapes whilst listening to the story.

We have talked about the importance of taking part over winning and the children took home a chocolate gold medal for being good sports throughout the week's physical activities, including bike skills, obstacle course, relay race, aiming and throwing, and of course sports day practice.

We will be continuing the Olympic theme throughout this term, encouraging physical activity and improving gross motor skills. This is an ideal time to get out and about and move our bodies; go swimming, for a walk, take a trip to the park, climb a tree or even crazy golf - get active with your children and feel the benefits, and maybe watch a little of the Olympics with them when it begins!
