This week the children have all been busy practising for sports day where we will be having an egg and spoon race, a beanbag race, an obstacle course race and a running race. The children have taken turns, listened to instructions, and cheered on the other children while waiting for their go.
We have also been learning about the Olympics; how people from all over the world come together to compete against each other. The children have tried some of the Olympic events, including high jump and hurdles. Maybe one day they will represent their country!
Also this week the children that will be leaving us to go to school have been learning all about their new schools.
The children have ‘acted out’ getting up in the morning, putting on their school uniform, finding their book bag and going into school. We have talked to the children about what to expect when they get to school, how they will have friends from preschool with them and what the daily routine will be like.
The children have watched welcome videos from The Dingle Primary (https://youtu.be/E-mvGaPfn38) and for Wheelock Primary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJVBmBGFt5Q&safe=true) which you may like to watch again together.
Over the coming weeks we will continue to talk to the children about starting school. At home children can be prepared for school by encouraging them to get dressed by themselves and put on their own shoes, reading story books about starting school and familiarising your child with the school they will be going to by walking past or practising the morning school run.
