‘It’s lunchtime now let’s go!’

At lunchtime, all of the staff and children sit down together in their key worker groups to eat their lunch. Before the lunch bags come out and after the children have washed their hands, we all sing the lunch time song ‘It’s lunchtime now let’s go!’ Having a regular routine, including songs like this one, helps the children settle and know what is coming next in their day.

Lunch time is a great chance to develop the children’s social skills with lots of conversations taking place, especially around what everybody is eating.

We try to encourage the children to eat their savoury food first followed by fruit, yoghurts and any sweet snacks.

Quite often children are keen to try what other children have in their lunch boxes so below are examples of a few children’s lunch boxes from last week to help give ideas.

Younger children are given any support they may need whilst eating. For older children we encourage them to open any packets, such as yoghurts, by themselves encouraging their independence ready for starting school.
