This week the children have been learning all about emergency vehicles and the people who help us, including the police, fire and ambulance services. This was a great theme for increasing the children’s understanding of the world around them and how to stay safe.
To help capture the children’s imagination and to aid their learning, lots of resources were set up in preschool including toy police cars, fire engines and ambulances for small world play. Water tables with pipettes helped the children to develop their fine motor skills while squirting water at pretend fires and we had role play costumes and stories including Topsy and Tim’s emergency rescue.
Through acting out different role play situations, such as a pretend fire in the outside playhouse, the children learnt who they would need to call and the number that they would need to call to get the emergency services to the incident.
Some of the children were lucky enough to have a visit from a Police Officer who spoke to the children about the importance of ‘bee-ing’ kind to each other, the planet, animals and our community. This is to celebrate the visit of the Anti-Violence Bee to Crewe. The children have each completed a picture, of their message of kindness, which will be displayed at St Peter’s Church, Earle Street form 27th May.
As well as talking to the children and answering any questions the children had, the Police Officer also let the children sit in her police car where she reinforced the importance of wearing seat belts to the children for their own safety.
On Friday the children had a visit from a fire engine, thanks to the parent of one of our children who works for the Fire Service. This was a great chance for the children to see a Fire Engine up close, sit inside and see how the rescue apparatus and most importantly the hose works!
It's been another great (and very warm) week at preschool!
Do you post pictures of children on here ?
