Choo Choo!

This term our theme is transport as we have lots of children who love different vehicles and have an interest in them. This week we have been busy with trains, talking about why they are good for the environment, different uses, the change from steam to electric and how a steam train works, including basic concepts like how steam is produced.

The children have been sponge painting trains, using their creativity to make them in their own original way. They've also been using magnets to guide magnetic engines around tracks, introducing the concept of forces.

This week we have been singing “Down at the station “ at rhyme time, and playing in the tough tray with trains, blocks to make buildings, and farm animals in green rice grass to add a sensory experience, encouraging the children to think and talk about what they may see on a train journey and also encouraging language development.

You can continue your child’s learning at home by reading stories about trains, maybe taking them to the station to see the trains, or take a train journey . Think about taking a small steam train ride, so that they can experience the magic for themselves!
