This week at preschool our transport theme is ‘boats’.
The children will have the opportunity to make their own toy boats and test them on the water to see if they float. The children will then be able to move the boats around by blowing through straws; as well as being great fun, this also supports speech development. The children can experiment putting different objects in the water to see if they think they will sink or float and why they think this.
The children will be making boat pictures out of different coloured shapes. This will help the children begin to recognise and name the different shapes and colours that they see
Our rhyme for the week is ‘row, row, row your boat’. The children will be able to get in their boats and ‘row’ as they sing the song. We will also be chatting about how to stay safe when near water by staying close to adults and how wearing life jackets and armbands keep us safe in swimming pools and the sea.
We will be looking at the story ‘Noah’s Ark’, discussing the weather and how the rain caused the floods and how the animals were kept safe onboard the Ark. The children will be able to re-enact the story using a toy Noah’s Ark and using pom-poms as rain.
Finally we will be having a ‘pirate day’ where the children will be able to make an eye patch, spy glass and treasure maps. We will read a pirate story and go on a treasure hunt, listening and following instructions to find the treasure.
