Autumn Bug Hunts

Summer is over but the children are still very interested in searching for bugs!

We have been hunting for bugs at preschool but there are not a lot to find now. We are mostly finding worms, millipedes and wood lice! Most of the children are happy to hold them in their hands and they like watching the millipedes curl into balls. We have been using our new Edina Explorers kit and the children love looking at the bugs through the jumbo magnifiers and magnifying pots!

Please talk to your children about worms and how valuable they are at aerating the soil and carrying nutrients into it - see if you can find some at home, count how many there are, compare their sizes and maybe measure them, or provide some worm like spaghetti for your children to play with.

The spiders are also still coming in from the cold, so if you are afraid of them, please try and hide it from your children and if possible take them out rather than kill them.
